The following is a list of the 9 events Beta Alpha Psi will be holding this Spring.  To be an active member (“Member in good standing”), you must attend 6 of the 9 events listed.  Attendance at the service event will count as 2 events.  You must RSVP in order to attend each of these events.  Please do not RSVP to an event unless you are committed to attend.

 

 

Welcome Event and Induction of New Members

Description:

This event will serve a twofold purpose.  First, last semester’s candidates who met membership requirements of Beta Alpha Psi will be inducted as members.  Second, this event will provide an opportunity to socialize with fellow BAP members, prospective candidates and newly admitted accounting students.  Food will be served.

CPAs in business and industry work for companies ranging from family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Management accountants (also called industrial, corporate, or private accountants or controllers) record and analyze the financial information of the companies for which they work. Industry accountants may work in areas including financial analysis, planning and budgeting, cost accounting, taxation and internal auditing.  Food will be served.

Joint Event with ASU's Arizona Chapter of Fraud Examiners (ACFE)

BAP is going to have a joint event with ACFE.  The meeting will be ACFE's showcase event which is a presentation on "Dueling Expert Witnesses". Dinner will be served. This event counts as one of your 6 required events for the semester.  Dinner will be served.

Service Event

Date/Time

Saturday, March 6, 2010 from approximately 9:00-12:00. Lunch will be served at noon.

Description:

One of the basic tenants of BAP is a dedication to service.  We will be doing maintenance work along the Tempe Town Lake. Attendance at this event will count as TWO events.

We will be working outdoors! Please make sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you don't mind getting a bit dirty. It will be early March and, historically, noontime highs can reach the low-80s.

Details:

Indian Bend Wash Habitat cleanup - We will assit with: replanting within the habitat area, general landscape cleanup, and preparation of a project area for local Eagle Scouts.

Opportunities for Accountants in Government

Tuesday March 30th from 5:00 - 6:30

Details:

This meeting is mandatory for members and will have two purposes.

First, nominations for Fall 2010 officer positions will be taken at the beginning of this meeting. Individuals are allowed to self-nominate or be nominated by someone else. You must be present to be nominated.

The second part of the meeting will be a presentation. There are a lot of opportunities available for accountants at all levels of government. At the federal level, accountant work for the FBI, the IRS, and the GAO. At the State and Local levels, accountants may be involved with the city or county accounting, the AZ Treasury department and the AZ Auditor General’s office. We will have several government accountants at this event to discuss governmental accounting career options. Food will be served.
