Beta Alpha Psi Membership Details

January 2010:

Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary and professional organization for students of accountancy, finance, and information systems. Its stated purpose includes recognition of outstanding academic achievements in those fields; promotion of the study and practice of accounting and information systems; provision of opportunities for self-development and association among members and financial information professionals; and encouragement of a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. The organization seeks to develop its members' professionalism through career-oriented, social, and community activities. Being a member of Beta Alpha Psi will provide great opportunities to interact with both the accounting faculty and members of the professional accounting community.
To become a candidate in Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), you must meet the following qualifications:
  • Be a matriculated undergraduate, or post-baccalaureate student with a concentration in accounting, finance or information systems and have at least two semester left of school (including graduate school).
  • Complete at least one accounting course with a B or better. If applicable, students must have a B average in all upper division classes for their major.
  • Attain an overall minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
  • Have declared or intend to declare a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems.
  • Have completed at least one year of collegiate studies (30+ semester hours or equivalent).
  • Payment of candidate fee as determined by the executive committee of $55 (this is a one time payment). The fee goes to the national office and covers national dues and organization pin.
  • Payment of chapter dues of $25.


  • There are separate requirements that candidates must meet to become members, including:
  • Have completed at least 60 hours of collegiate courses and at least one upper level course in your major beyond the business core.
  • Attain an overall minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the upper level courses in your major (beyond the business core).
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Payment of chapter dues of $25.
  • Complete meeting and service requirements as specified in the "Agenda of Attendance of Chapter Activities", which will be set by the Executive Committee each semester. For the Spring 2010 semester, BAP will hold 9 meetings and events. Candidates must attend a minimum of 6 meetings or events to be eligible to become a member. Meetings will normally be on Tuesday evenings starting at 5:00 pm.
