Membership RequirementsBeta Alpha Psi is an honorary and professional organization for students of accountancy, finance, and information systems. Its stated purpose includes recognition of outstanding academic achievements in those fields; promotion of the study and practice of accounting and information systems; provision of opportunities for self-development and association among members and financial information professionals; and encouragement of a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. The organization seeks to develop its members' professionalism through career-oriented, social, and community activities. Being a member of Beta Alpha Psi will provide great opportunities to interact with both the accounting faculty and members of the professional accounting community.
Requirements for Continuing Members: - Payment of chapter dues each semester ($50 for Spring 2012 Semester).
- To remain members in good standing, members must complete meeting and service requirements as specified in the "Agenda of Attendance of Chapter Activities", which will be set by the Executive Committee each semester. Members not in good standing cannot indicate current membership in BAP on their resume and are not allowed to vote at BAP chapter elections.
Requirements for First-Time Candidates: - Be an ASU undergraduate, graduate or post-baccalaureate student with a concentration in accounting, finance or information systems and have at least two semester left of school (including graduate school).
- Complete at least one accounting course with a B or better. If applicable, students must have a B average in all upper division classes for their major.
- Attain an overall minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Have declared or intend to declare a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems.
- Have completed at least one year of collegiate studies (30+ semester hours or equivalent).
- Payment of candidate fee as determined by the executive committee of $55 (this is a one-time payment). The fee goes to the national office and covers your national candidate fee.
- Payment of chapter dues ($45 for Spring 2012 Semester).
- Total payment for Spring 2012 Semester is $100.
Requirements for Candidates to BECOME Members: - Have completed at least 60 hours of collegiate courses and at least one upper level course in your major (beyond the business core.)
- Attain an overall minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the upper level courses in your major (beyond the business core).
- Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Complete meeting and service requirements as specified in the "Agenda of Attendance of Chapter Activities", which will be set by the Executive Committee each semester.
A student may remain a candidate for no more than twelve months prior to induction as a full member; exceptions to this requirement may be made via a petition of the chapter's executive committee. |
BAP will hold 10 meetings and events. Members and Candidates must attend a minimum of 6 events in the Spring 2012 semester, of specific event types, to remain active. Events must include: - (2) Organization events,
- (2) Professional Development and Exploration events,
- (1) Technical skills and topics event, and
- (1) Service event
Breakdown of event types can be found on the calendar of events. Requirements to achieve Outstanding Member status: To be eligible for Outstanding Member Status, members must attend a minimum of 8 events, of specific event types, and must either serve on a committee or be an officer. Events must include: - (3) Organization events,
- (3) Professional Development and Exploration events,
- (1) Technical skills and topics event, and
- (1) Service events
